COVID 19 UPDATE

Because the coronavirus has yet to peak in Tennessee and in many parts of the U.S., the University of the South has made the difficult decision to cancel or move online all summer programs this year.

The 2020 Sewanee Young Writers' Conference WILL be held online.

At this time the 2020 Conference is no longer accepting applications.

Please contact Elizabeth Grammer at sywc@sewanee.edu for more information.

Are you a 9th, 10th, or 11th grader who is passionate about creative writing? Explore this website to learn about our program. You can also follow us on Facebook and Instagram!

THIS YEAR, in addition to having workshops in poetry, playwriting, and fiction, we are also offering three specialized courses: (1) Fantasy, Science Fiction, Fabulism: Short Fiction through a Fantastic Lens; (2) Research, Persona and the Historical Poem; and (3) Digging Deep: Writing and Discovery in Poetry and Creative Nonfiction. You may find the course descriptions on the FAQ and Faculty pages, as well as on the application.

Because we know that revision is central to the writing process, this year we will have a faculty member who will devote his afternoons and evenings to helping students re-imagine work they may have written before coming to the SYWC and work they started here. Click here to learn more.
