Stronger Truer Sewanee will raise resources that ensure access, value, and opportunity for all students—in the college and seminary—through a handsome expansion of financial aid resources that help hold the line on the cost of education and a broad expansion of funding for career-shaping internships.

As we complete this campaign, we seek to raise an additional $20 million for financial aid, as a response to historic gifts that make up the Winstead Challenge. With your help, we can move closer to meeting 100 percent of students’ demonstrated need.

More resources are needed to ensure that every student can pursue a career-building internship. Funding for about 200 additional internships are needed to satisfy the needs of Sewanee students.

Every gift to the campaign will help Sewanee become a stronger and truer version of itself and meet the needs of today's students. Gifts to the campaign through the Sewanee Fund will make an immediate impact and may be designated to current use as financial aid or to provide a living stipend to a student completing a superb internship. While a gift at any level will help meet Sewanee’s annual financial aid bill, here are some important benchmarks.

  • Provide a typical student’s internship stipend for a week at $350.
  • Cover a student’s travel to a faraway internship placement with a gift of $1,000.
  • Sponsor a typical eight-week internship with a gift of $2,800.
  • Provide resources for an on-campus research assistantship and benefits with a gift of $4,700.
  • Underwrite the most common incentive scholarship with a $10,000 commitment.
  • Cover the average financial need of a college student or full tuition, room, and board in the School of Theology for $25,000.

If you are interested in a gift that goes beyond current-use dollars, you may want to give to endowment, a capital project, or make a planned gift. While gifts of any size are welcome and appreciated, naming opportunities begin at $50,000. Named endowments can be created to support scholarships, internships, faculty fellowships, endowed chairs, or programs and program-related activities that create opportunity, reinforce academic distinction, enhance the Sewanee experience, and educate tomorrow's church leaders.

Commitments made before June 30, 2019, can be counted in the Stronger Truer Sewanee campaign, with pledge payments to be completed by June 30, 2022.
