Stronger Truer Sewanee will enhance Sewanee’s ability to attract, retain, and support a superb and nimble faculty and develop 21st-century programs that help students address unscripted challenges. Support is also needed for new facilities in which learning takes place, such as a learning commons in duPont Library.

Sewanee affirms the value of the liberal arts: the humanities, the arts, and the sciences taught in an inspiring setting in the classroom and in face-to-face mentoring by dedicated professors. New resources will bolster the essential relationship between professor and student and will help Sewanee enhance its curriculum with new broad-gauged, integrative courses and programs such as business, civic engagement, and pre-health.

We seek to attract and retain celebrated teacher-scholars, building a faculty whose commitment to teaching is matched only by its passion for creating knowledge through research and scholarship completed in collaboration with students, and for teaching in programs that speak to the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Every gift to the campaign will help Sewanee become a stronger and truer version of itself and meet the needs of today's students. Gifts to the campaign through the Sewanee Fund can make an immediate impact and may be designated to build a stronger faculty (through salary and professional development). You can also give to any academic unit on campus, from art history to theatre and from biochemistry to psychology or to any of our innovative integrative programs such as environment and sustainability, civic engagement, women’s studies, and international and global studies. While a gift at any level can add to Sewanee’s capacity to deliver outstanding undergraduate and seminary education, these benchmarks help quantify the need:

  • Promote an interdisciplinary program through a faculty stipend for workshop participation for a gift of $1,000.
  • Send a faculty member to a professional conference or an off-campus research site with a gift of $2,000.
  • Sponsor development of an innovative course with a grant of $10,000.

If you are interested in a gift that goes beyond current-use dollars, you may want to give to endowment, a capital project, or make a planned gift. While gifts of any size are welcome and appreciated, naming opportunities begin at $50,000. Named endowments can be created to support scholarships, internships, faculty fellowships, endowed chairs, or programs and program-related activities that create opportunity, reinforce academic distinction, enhance the Sewanee experience, and educate tomorrow's church leaders.

Commitments made before June 30, 2019, can be counted in the Stronger Truer Sewanee campaign, with pledge payments to be completed by June 30, 2022.
