Lucy A. Singer
Lucy Singer joined the University of the South as Vice President and General Counsel in November 2017. She is responsible for providing, managing and coordinating legal services for the University, for advising University officials on legal matters related to the performance of their duties, including compliance with university policies, and state and federal laws and regulations affecting higher education.
Ms. Singer is authorized to practice law in Tennessee and is also licensed in Vermont, Missouri and Illinois.
Prior to her appointment at Sewanee, Ms. Singer served as Senior Associate General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel at the University of Vermont from 2005 to 2017 and as Senior Associate General Counsel at Southern Illinois University from 1999 to 2005. Prior to serving in-house at higher education institutions, Ms. Singer was in private practice in St. Louis representing colleges and universities among other clients. She received her J.D. degree from St. Louis University School of Law summa cum laude. She received her graduate degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis in 1985 and her undergraduate degree from Missouri State University (then Southwest Missouri State University) in 1982.
Ms. Singer is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys. Prior to serving in-house at higher education institutions, Ms. Singer was in private practice in St. Louis representing colleges and universities among other clients.
