Making an Appointment:

Our appointments are all managed through our online scheduler.

To make an appointment, click on the link above. If this is your first time visiting the Writing Center, you will need to set up an account using your Sewanee email address. Click on the “Register for an account” link on the sign-in page, as seen here:

 

Follow the directions in the menu that opens up to give us some basic information about yourself (preferred email, class standing, primary languages, major, etc.). 

Once you log in, you will see the available schedule with the current week listed as a default. It will look something like this: 

 

You will see the current week’s dates at the top and the schedule with the tutors available for each day. If a box in the schedule is white, that means the tutor is available at that time. If a time slot is purple, that means the tutor isn’t working at that time, or the center isn’t open. If it is bright blue, that means someone has already reserved that time with that tutor. Appointments you have made yourself show up as orange. 

To make an appointment, simply click on an open time slot and fill out the form that appears. You may make appointments from 15 minutes to 1 hour long. Please be sure to leave enough time for your assignment length and complexity. (For example, we usually recommend at least a 30 minute appointment for a 5-page paper.) 

If you would like to make an appointment beyond the current week, you can use the arrows or the calendar icon in the top blue menu bar to select the date range you are interested in. 

Once you make an appointment, you will be sent an email confirming your choice, and you will receive a reminder before your appointment actually occurs. After the appointment concludes, you should also receive an anonymous survey asking about your experience. Please take a moment to fills this out so we can improve how we help you.

 

Tips and Tricks for Making Appointments: 

1. All of our tutors are trained to work with all different kinds of writing assignments. If you would like a tutor with expertise in a particular area, as might be necessary for an upper-level course assignment, you may limit the tutors and appointments you see on the schedule by using the "Limit to" drop-down menu at the top of the screen:

2. If you need to edit or cancel an appointment you have already made, click on the “Welcome” menu with your name at the top right-hand corner of the screen, or click on the appointment you would like to edit in the schedule itself.

3. If there are no more appointments available for a tutor or a time you would like, click the clock icon next to the date on the right side of the screen to be added to a waiting list. We will notify you if an appointment opens up due to a cancellation.
