Master of Sacred Theology (S.T.M.) Program in Anglican Studies

Goals and Objectives:

The School of Theology offers a S.T.M. program with a focus on Anglican Studies. It is an academic research degree.

The primary objective of the program is to enable students with the first theological degree to attain special competence in Anglican Studies.

Program Content and Duration:

Content:
The S.T.M. in Anglican Studies requires 30 semester hours and is based on courses taken at the School of Theology during one academic year and one summer. The student must take eighteen hours in the Anglican Studies Program and six hours in a summer session and write a thesis for six hours credit.

The student must write a thesis which demonstrates scholarly competence. It must be approximately 100-150 pages in length. It must deal with a topic in Anglican Studies, and the thesis proposal must be approved by the Advanced Degrees Committee and the Professor of Anglican Studies. The thesis carries six hours credit and has two readers chosen by the chair of the Advanced Degrees Committee. The thesis must be completed by April 15 in order to graduate that year.

Duration:
The S.T.M. in Anglican Studies requires one year of full-time study. It must be completed within three years of initial matriculation. The student must attend one summer session at the School of Theology.

Students:
Students applying to this program must have the M.Div. degree, and must have maintained a B average in that program.

Admission:
The applicant follows the regular procedure for admission into the S.T.M. program. The Advanced Degrees Committee and the Professor of Anglican Studies serve as the admissions committee.

Finances:
The Student pays the regular tuition for the Anglican Studies Program and pays twelve hours tuition to the S.T.M. Program.
