Disciples of Christ in Community
(DOCC) is an adult
education program which provides an experience in building Christian
community while encouraging individual spiritual growth. It began in
1975 at Trinity Church, New Orleans, under the leadership of Rev. John
Stone Jenkins. It is now under the auspices of the School of
Theology Programs Center To begin a DOCC program a team of
clergy and lay- persons
are trained at the DOCC Summer Conference in Sewanee or one of the
off-site conferences held at various locations around the country. A
team consists of a presenter and two or more group facilitators.
Clergy or theologically trained laypersons serve as presenters. At
each of the 21 sessions, a 30 minute presentation is given. After
which, the participants gather in small groups of about ten to discuss the
significance of the presentation to their lives.
