Tour
Course in Anglican History and Spirituality
designed and escorted by:
The Revâd Dr. Susanna Metz,
Assistant Professor of Contextual Education, and The Revâd Anne
Beardsley Chisham, Director, Anglican Tours
This tour-course is open to anyone who desires to
study and experience the special historical heritage of Christianity
in England and the living spiritual life of the present Church of
England. The course is meant especially for Sewanee D.Min., S.T.M.,
M.Div., and M.A. students and alumni/alumnae, and EFM and DOCC
participants. Spouses and friends are most welcome. The time
together is intended to be, and indeed has been for those who have
gone in previous years, both an educational and enjoyable
ãsight-seeingä trip and a deeply moving spiritual pilgrimage. For
purposes both of knowledge and prayer, our itinerary
includes many of the great cathedrals, as well as parish churches,
colleges and monasteries. Most evenings we attend Choral Evensong,
one of the greatest contributions of Anglicanism to Christian
worship. Throughout the tour we have talks on the Church in England,
both past and present, and a formal tour of one of the cathedrals.
We will have some planned group get-togethers in which we blend the
joy of learning and discussion with community building through the
fun of pub evenings, shared meals, and other social interaction.
Join us on this pilgrimage to the land in which our Episcopal
religious heritage formed, grew, and continues.
