Theta Kappa Phi (ΘΚΦ)

Theta Kappa Phi (TKP) sorority members

Theta Kappa Phi is distinguished as the first sorority at Sewanee: The University of the South. As the "Sisterhood of the Mountain", our membership for the 2014-2015 school year stood at 150 members. Our involvement with our philanthropy partner, Sewanee's Community Action Committee, has spanned the past 15 years. Every year, TKP hosts three fundraising events and provides numerous volunteers on behalf of the CAC. With our biannual Clothing Sale and annual Powder Puff Football Tournament, TKP raised $1800 for the CAC last year and hopes to donate even more in the years to come. The women of TKP participate actively on campus as members of Student Government, Athletics, Performing Arts, Community Engagement, Academic Honors Societies and much much more!

An original creation from the mind of the brilliant Marcia McFadden, Theta Kappa Phi serves as a means to unite the women of the college and celebrate femininity, or as McFadden puts it, “to give women the opportunity to participate in other social and community activities that had formerly been unavailable to them.” Today, Theta Kappa Phi continues to inspire a deep and abiding sense of relationship to the University, the Sewanee community, and each other; and to encourage in each of her sisters a passion for learning, a commitment to personal integrity, and a sense of social responsibility; and to promote true friendship among her sisters, to support and encourage each of them as she works to achieve her greatest potential as a student and as a woman.
