The Canale Internship Program, begun in fall of 2005, seeks to give 8
socially active and socially aware students the opportunity to step into
service-oriented leadership roles which affect not only Sewanee but the
entire region which surrounds it. In essence, the internships are a way
for individuals to take their service to a new level of committment.
Richard Hubbard, C'09, has been active
in a wide variety of service on the
mountain, ranging from work with the
women's center, to the chapel, to Habitat
for Humanity. He recently spent his
summer serving in inner-city Kingston,
Jamaica. He is currently designing the
Outreach Program's website as well
completing a number of special projects
for the department.
Joe Pero, C'08, is heading a special project on the
mountain meant to develop collective growing and
selling for farmers in the Sewanee area. He has
volunteered three times on outreach trips to the
Mississippi Gulf Coast, done service work in
Jamaica twice, and served as volunteer coordinator of Chi Psi Fraternity.

member of the Sewanee service
community since her arrival. She has

Mississippi, has participated in the Komen
Race for the Cure, and attended the
C.O.O.L. leadership conferance on service.
She is currently working with Housing Sewanee Inc.,
the town's version of Habitat for Humanity, on a fund-raising project and workshop for student education.
