New! Andrew Plattner’s new offering

Andrew Plattner’s new novel, Offerings from a Rust Belt Jockey, which received the Dzanc Books Mid-Career Novel Award, will be released on 15 October 2013. Plattner continues his streak of writing about horse racing and the drama that envelops that world, drawing on his the experiences in his former career as a turf writer. Of the novel, co-founder of Danzc Books says, “Jockey is a dead on the money infectious novel. The writing is hilarious and touching, the narrative, and each of Andy's fully realized characters, presents a perfectly pitched tale of love and ambition, honor and betrayal.” Incidentally the book’s release coincides with his story “Hialeah” in our fall 2013 issue. This story artfully blends the highstakes of betting on horse racing with the equally highstakes of marriage, parenthood, and boyhood. Look out for an excerpt from the story in our issue preview. Below is a video of Andrew Plattner explaining the how he began writing fiction about horse racing.
