Peter Makuck's Family Portraits

Peter Makuck, whose previous book of poems (Long Lens: New and Selected Poems, 2009) is reviewed in our upcoming spring issue, has published a new book of fiction. Allegiance and Betrayal: Stories is a conglomeration of family portraits with settings ranging wildly—"cars, on top of a water tower, in a bar, on a fishing boat, at a family farm, and at a swimming pool." Makuck explores the core issues of family and friends, allegiances made and betrayals confessed, and conflicts both hilarious and horrible, all through stories that Henry Hart says are "destined to beguile."
