New Books by Sewanee Review Authors

George Monteiro

Long time Sewanee Review contributor George Monteiro has released a new book, Elizabeth Bishop in Brazil and After: A Poetic Career Transformed, focused on Elizabeth Bishop's time in Brazil, "a sojourn that marked her work indelibly." The book "explores how Bishop’s personal and literary experience in Brazil influenced her work culturally, historically, and linguistically." You can also pick up Monteiro's editing work in the Gavea Brown Book of Portuguese-American Poetry, which he co-edited with Alice R. Clemente. The book collects twenty-three poets that "could acknowledge, and at times perhaps even embrace, Portuguese roots while forging an indisputably American identity." Also, look for his new book As Paixoes de Pessoa, which is currently at the bindery.
