Gladys Swan is a prolific contributor of stories, verse, and essays to the SR, and we are pleased to announce that her newest collection of fiction, The Tiger’s Eye: New and Selected Stories, is out from Servinghouse Books. About A Garden Amid Fires (BkMk Press, 2007), Swan’s most recent collection of fiction, Fred Chappell remarks, “Swan claims new mastery of the short story. A wide variety of settings adds brilliance to important themes: the irresistible powers of memory, the confusions of exile, genuineness and falsity in art, the integrity of loneliness.” Her work is “uncannily good.” “The Tiger’s Eye” will include two of her most recent SR stories: “Spirit over Water” (summer 2009) and “The House on the Lake” (fall 2010). Look for her essay, "The Tonic of the Wilderness" in our spring 2012 issue, Village Life and the Natural World. Read an interview with Gladys swan here.
