Tuckaway Hall

Built in 1929 and completly renovated in the summer of 1999,Tuckaway Hall originally served as the Sewanee Inn. This men's dormitory is famous for its front porch, rocking chairs, fishbowl common room, and colorful ghost stories. Home to 58 upperclass and first year men, Tuckaway Hall is a studious and active community. The double and single rooms are situated on three main sections that are divided by multi-level staircases to create five small floors. The rooms on lower wings have arched windows. Rooms range from 105 square feet to 306 square feet. The floors are carpeted in brown with off-white walls. The cooridors and common room areas are tiled. All rooms share hall baths.

The lower common room is a place for residents to watch t.v. and hold meetings. The upper common room off the front porch has a large fireplace and is known as the fishbowl due to its large exterior windows. Being one of the oldest dorms, Tuckaway has its share of friendly ghost stories. The exterior of Tuckaway represents Sewanee's first use of fieldstone architecture in its buildings.
