2011 Campus Master Plan
The University engaged Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company, an architecture and planning firm, to develop a Campus Master Plan for University facilities. The previous Master Plan, completed in 2001 and updated in 2005, guided University construction and improvements for nearly a decade. Gailor, Humphreys, St. Luke’s, and Spencer Halls, as well as the Nabit Art Building, were all either built or renovated. As a new decade began, a new facilities plan was required.
In developing the master plan, representatives from Hanbury Evans visited the University frequently during 2010 and 2011, learning about the campus and Sewanee's needs, holding collaborative workshops, and meeting with the entire community. In developing the document, Hanbury Evans incorporated the many ideas generated through these on-site workshops, conferences, planning team meetings, presentations and reviews, and analyses of existing campus facilities.
The 2011 Campus Master Plan was approved by the Board of Regents and the Board of Trustees in September and October 2011. A 2013 update, in the form of an appendix aligning the Master Plan fully with the 2012 Strategic Plan, was approved in 2013. This Plan will guide the University’s work on facilities over the next decade.
