Access to the Island
St. Catherine’s Island is private property, and may not be visited without an invitation from the owning foundation. It may be possible to schedule a day visit through the Superintendent if necessary for completion of a research, but overnight housing is more difficult. Anyone on the island has arrived on a foundation boat, is living in foundation housing, and is using a foundation vehicle. You may not visit the island without a prior invitation from the foundation.
Unless otherwise necessary, weekday boats leave the mainland dock near Savannah, Georgia, at 6:30 and 7:30 AM Eastern Time, and leave the island for the mainland at 4:00 and 5:00 PM. On weekends and holidays, only the 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM boats are used. Invited guests need to arrange boat passage with the Superintendent in advance so that more boats and boat pilots can be scheduled at those times if the group arriving or leaving exceeds usual boat capacity.
