Dr. Randolph Peterson has been with The University’s Physics Department for 16 years. During his time he has served as both Professor and Chairman of the Department. He received his B.S. (1972) in Engineering Physics from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK) and both his M.S. (1974) and Ph.D. (1977) in Physics from UTK as well. Dr. Peterson serves on the Executive Governing Board of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) with whom he has been a member since 1985.

Dr. Peterson’s research has contributed to more than 50 published papers in academic journals and more than 30 presentations at national and international physics conferences. Since 1986 he has organized and produced an annual “Physics Day at the Amusement Park” at Lake Winnepesaukah in Chattanooga, Tennessee. During the school year 2002-3003, Dr. Peterson took his sabbatical to conduct research with The University of Alabama at Birmingham.
