jon_evansJon Evans, assistant provost for environmental stewardship and sustainability, has recently been appointed as a science advisor for an Open Space Institute (OSI) initiative focused on wildlife adaptation to climate change.

Launched last year in the Northeast, the Resilient Landscapes Initiative now is extending into the Southeast and will focus on potential land protection projects in nine southern states. Evans will join other scientists as they offer their expertise in the science screening of these lands, helping to identify the places that provide the greatest climatic options for the greatest number of species.

OSIThe initiative helps decision-makers ensure that the places they conserve today will support a diversity of plants and animals tomorrow, within the context of a changing climate. It was launched with a grant from The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

A leader in environmental conservation, the OSI was founded in 1974 to protect significant landscapes in New York State, and has now been a partner in the protection of nearly 2.2 million acres across North America.
