bikes_-_volunteer_dayOur first volunteer day of the semester was a big success with over a dozen volunteers! In addition to weeding our garden beds and getting them ready for fall planting, we also harvested our pumpkins and sunflowers.

This year the garden had a large pumpkin patch with a wide variety of pumpkins--some of which are great for eating, some of which are great for jack-o-lanterns.  Our volunteers picked the pumpkins and then placed them in old barn for storage.  We will sell our jack-o-lantern pumpkins later this fall, and you will see the rest featured in the dining hall in the coming weeks.

While we were by the old barn, we took a minute to visit with our goats (how could we not?), but then back to work...

While our sunflowers serve to attract pollinators to the garden all summer, we thought it might be time to share their beauty with the campus.  After harvesting the remaining flowers, our crew created some beautiful bouquets and delivered them to our friends at Stirling's.

Look forward to seeing everyone again next week!
