Making History
In the majestic All Saints’ Chapel, at the center of Sewanee’s picturesque campus, John M. McCardell, Jr. received the distinctive robe of office and recited the Latin oath during the traditional Founders’ Day Convocation, taking his place among the distinguished leaders who, from generation to generation, have steadfastly served the University and its students.
A noted historian of the American South, president emeritus of Middlebury College, and a respected national education leader, John McCardell has challenged Sewanee to examine its storied history, seize the opportunities of the present moment, and set itself confidently on a course for the future.
A series of gala events and ceremonial occasions around Founders’ Day, October 12, 2010, celebrated the installation of McCardell as the sixteenth Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of the South.
