Humanities 201

Humanities 201: The Early Modern World begins with the rise of Renaissance humanism, ends at the American Revolution, and considers the western discovery of the non-western world. The writings of Machiavelli and Descartes receive attention along with Paradise Lost, Shakespeare’s Tempest, and the monumental art of the Sistine Chapel. In this semester, music is added to the sequence with special focus upon Handel's Messiah and Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
