The University Health Service Statement of Purpose
The mission of UHS is to provide a responsive, efficient, and comprehensive program of health services for the students of the University of the South. Further goals include the enhancement of the university’s educational environment and process, the modification or removal of health related barriers to learning, and the promotion of an optimum level of wellness on campus.
UHS strongly believes that all students should be active participants in their health care needs and treatment.
Confidentiality
All medical records and clinical consultations are strictly confidential and any information cannot be released without the express written consent of the student.
Patient Rights
As a patient, you have a right to:
- Receive considerate and respectful care.
- Receive private and confidential care.
- Know who is responsible for coordinating your care.
- Ask for and receive complete and understandable information about your condition and care.
- Participate in decisions regarding your care.
- Refuse treatment.
- Access your medical record.
- Receive an explanation of your bill.
- Exercise your cultural and spiritual beliefs.
- Voice concerns to administration or the medical staff without fear of reprisals or discrimination.
Patient Responsibilities
As a patient, you have the responsibility to:
- Give the health care provider (HCP) complete and full information on your health status and to cooperate in treatment planning and follow-up.
- Ask sufficient questions of the HCP, making use of available information and education concerning your own health.
- Be respectful of office and health care personnel.
- Use identified methods of expressing grievances and suggestions, whenever indicated, rather than remaining silent, in order to assist UHS in improving the quality of health care and education services.
After Hours Care
Several options are available for students who require medical care on the weekends or during hours that UHS is closed.

**The cost of using the ER is not covered by the university and we encourage using the ER only for emergent care.

Hours of Operation:
August 1—May 31
Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm except on Thursdays (patient hours 12:30pm-4:30pm)
Summer Hours: 1:00pm-3:00pm
We encourage students to call for an appointment time. An RN is available during open hours to triage students on the phone and answer health care related questions.
