Berlin: Impressions of a City

 

Course Description: A survey of Berlin through its history and architecture, its literature and film with emphasis on the twentieth century. The course is divided into five parts: Berlin's early history before WWI, the Weimar Republic, the Nazi period, Cold War Berlin (East and West), and modern Berlin after 1989. In addition to the history and architecture , major novels and films of the city are examined throughout the semester.

The course is tought in English. The course may not be used in fulfillment of the foreign language requirement; however, it can count toward the German major if a term paper is presented in German. (Credit, full course) Taught by Dr. Zachau
