Welcome to the Home Page of the Department of Classical Languages at the University of the South. Our department is devoted to the study of the world of ancient Greece and Rome. Standing in the long tradition of European and American classical study, we emphasize access to the literature and culture of Greece and Rome through a thorough knowledge of classical Greek and Latin. This thrust in which we have justifiable pride has been prevalent here at Sewanee since the very founding of the University. We are located on the Ground Floor of the recently (2005) refurbished Gailor Hall on the campus of the University of the South.
