THE ENRICHED MAJOR
The following schedule is
an example of how students may progress through the major. Chemistry Department faculty are
available for help with customizing plans for individual student needs.
Ideal for students that
are interested in going to graduate school in chemistry or an industrial
setting upon graduation from Sewanee.

General Distribution
requirements, as well as two Physical Education courses, must be completed by
the junior year.
[*] Well-prepared students with a strong background in
Chemistry may enroll in Chem 102 in the fall semester.
[ ] Math course placement is determined before Freshman
registration. If Math 101 is the first
course, then Math 207 may be taken during the sophomore year. Math 207 is strongly recommended, but
not required, for the Chemistry major.
[à] Students who are near the completion of their General
Distribution requirements are encouraged to perform research during the school
year. A research project must be
completed for Honors consideration.
[¤] Students attend departmental seminars throughout the
entire junior and senior year; registration for the course is in the spring
semester.
[**] Advanced Electives include: Chem 405 (Adv Organic Chemistry), Chem 408 (Adv Topics in Inorganic Chemistry), Chem 417 (Adv Biochemistry), Chem 424 (Topics in Physical Chemistry), and Chem 428 (Adv Topics in Analytical Chemistry).
[ ] Students completing the Humanities sequence receive credit for four college course requirements (English 101, History 100, philosophy/religion, & fine arts).
