Ideal for students that did not enroll in General Chemistry during the Fall semester of their freshman year, but are interested in a business, law, or health professional (medical, veterinary, dental, or pharmacy) program or secondary education upon graduation from Sewanee.

[*] Math course placement is determined before Freshman registration. If Math 101 is the first course, then Math 207 may be taken during the sophomore year. Math 207 is strongly recommended, but not required, for the Chemistry major.

[†] Biology courses are not required for the Chemistry major, but are required for pre-health professional students.

[‡] Students must complete two of the following courses: Mechanistic Biochemistry (Chem 307), Inorganic Chemistry (Chem 308), and Chemical Analysis (Chem 311).

[§] Students attend departmental seminars throughout the entire junior and senior year; registration for the course is in the spring semester.

[**] Advanced Electives include: Chem 405 (Adv Organic Chemistry), Chem 408 (Adv Topics in Inorganic Chemistry), Chem 417 (Adv Biochemistry), Chem 424 (Topics in Physical Chemistry), and Chem 428 (Adv Topics in Analytical Chemistry).

[††] Students who have completed their General Distribution requirements are encouraged to perform research during their junior or senior year. A research project must be completed for Honors consideration.

[‡‡] Students completing the Humanities sequence receive credit for four college course requirements (English 101, History 100, philosophy/religion, & fine arts).
