| | These transparent blue particles appear
to have two different shapes, rods and an irregular shape. Light across
the entire particle appears to be very uniform like piece of flat blue glass.
This suggests uniform thickness, perhaps a plate-like particle. Particle
size ranges from 1x10 to 5x60 microns for the rods and upto 30x120 microns
for the irregularly shaped particles (review the section on measurements
if necessary). As the stage is rotated under crossed polars, extinction
is observed, therefore the material is anisotropic. Careful observation
shows anomolous polarization colors (variation in the blue depending upon
the side of extinction). |
