Polarizing light microscopes have two polararizing filters, a polarizer and an analyzer. The location of each depends on how the particular microscope was set up. Here the upper polarizing filter is the polarizer. It may be slid into or out of the light path. The 530 nm compensating filter is found in the same holder. It too slides into and out of the light path.
