Science Research: Greene Scientific Research Internship

Application Guidelines for the Greene Scientific Research Internship 
 
The Bruce Green Scientific Research Internship provides stipends for students to perform scientific research at Sewanee during the summer. There will be one ten-week stipend of $3200. There could also be a four-week stipend of $960 that could be combined with another internship/research fellowship.

Before submitting a proposal, a student must consult with a faculty member in biology, chemistry, or physics, who will become the student's faculty sponsor. It is expected that the submitted proposal will be written by the student, with the faculty sponsor’s role that of a mentor. Upon completion of the internship, a report must be submitted.  It may consist of a number of media: a written document (2-5 pages), a PowerPoint presentation, or a website.

To apply, please submit the following documents electronically on TigerNet by March 5, 2008:

1)  A proposal for the internship/research project

    While the project description may vary depending on its nature/field, in general the following components are expected:
      a)  Title (approximately a dozen words)
      b)  Abstract or project overview (approximately 100 words)
      c)  Statement of the Problem (100 to 500 words)
      d)  Précis of previous work by others (up to 250 words)
     e) Method, including both procedure & planned data analysis (up to 1000 words)
     f)  How the proposed project fits within the student's plans for professional and personal development (100-500 words)

2)  A resume

3)  A list of two references (including at least one faculty member)

4)  A letter of confirmation from the faculty member who is offering the internship
