Message from the DirectorThe challenges that face our world today require visionary leadership, bold innovation, and solutions that will push the bounds of science and technology. In addition to serving as a bridge between high school and college, the Bridge Program in Math and Science at Sewanee seeks to cultivate future generations of creative problem-solvers who will utilize science and technology to change the world for the better. A crucial element in the improvement of the human condition is social change. The Bridge Program also seeks to attract rising high school seniors who want to bridge cultural, socioeconomic, religious, and racial differences. As a result of their participation in the Bridge program, the hope is that these students will enhance diversity at their high schools as well as on the college campuses where they eventually matriculate. From 2003-2006, my husband and I moved our family to South Africa to learn how that country had become transformed. We discovered South Africa’s successful government transition was enabled not only through the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, but also though power-sharing. Knowledge is power. The Bridge Program is intended to empower high school students through academic rigor and a research-rich experience so that they will be highly competitive as they apply for college admission. The University of The South is committed to recruiting a diverse student body and thus provides special scholarship opportunities for Bridge alumni who wish to enroll at Sewanee. We look forward to receiving your application for this summer’s Bridge program! Tina Nader tmnader@sewanee.edu |
