Welcome to Blackboard at Sewanee.

Blackboard is an online course management system that allows University of the South students to access course materials, receive assignments, collaborate with professors and peers, submit papers, and much more via a standard web-browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari.

This website provides access to the University of the South's online course management system, as well as related support documentation.

All Sewanee students and faculty should already have an account, your username will be your e-mail address without the "@sewanee.edu" and your password by default will be your student id starting with the upper case letter if you are a student or the last five digits of your Sewanee ID if you are a faculty member.

Blackboard and Banner Fall 2011

If you use the Blackboard course management system, please note that in order to keep the Banner and Blackboard systems synchronized, the managers of the Blackboard system have agreed to update it each day around 5:00 P.M. with students who have registered since the last update.

There have been persistent problems with students being “enrolled” in a course in the Blackboard system without being registered through Banner.  In too many cases—and despite reminders—this has led to unfortunate situations where students complete the semester’s work for a course but receive no credit for it.  We believe that synchronizing the systems in this way will prevent this problem in the future.  However, this means that neither you nor David Syler will be able to enroll students directly into the Blackboard system.  Students wishing to access course materials through Blackboard must register through Banner.
