Course Content
Microbiology 340 is an introductory course in microbiology. Although microbiology encompasses the study of such diverse organisms as viruses, bacteria, algae, and fungi, this course will concentrate on the structure, function and biological impact of bacteria and viruses.
Textbook
The textbook for this course is Prescott, Harley, and Klein Microbiology (5th edition). The laboratory manual is Microbiological Applications by Harold J. Benson, Eighth Edition (short version).
Attendance and Grades
A.Attendance is strongly encouraged.
B.Absences from tests will only be considered if I receive a note from the Dean or a physician to verify the excuse. I must receive the excuse within a week of the absence.
C. Grades. Final grades will be determined by performance on exams covering both the lectures and laboratory experience as well as several laboratory practicals. Tests will be returned; however, you will not be able to keep them. You may make an appointment to view them in my office at any time throughout the semester.
