Men's Soccer:
Sewanee Defeats Millsaps, 6-0; Seniors Set Record
(Sewanee, TN) -- The Sewanee mens soccer team posted its third shutout of the season with a 6-0 win against Millsaps here Sunday to guarantee the teams four seniors a school record of four straight winning seasons.
The Tigers improve to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with six regular season matches remaining. Millsaps is 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the SCAC.
The four seniors Ryan Davis, Andrew Daniele, Andrew North and Paul Roper have led Sewanee to a 48-18 (72.7%) win-loss record in four seasons.
North assisted on a goal by Kyle Johnston in the fourth minute and Davis scored unassisted in the 16th minute, plus assisted David Allens goal in the 50th minute.
Roper (three saves) and Dylan Lane (one save) posted the third shutout of the season. Roper has 16 in his career.
Four other senior classes have had three winning seasons in four years in the 33-year history of the program, but never four, until now.
"Having four straight winning seasons is a great accomplishment for our four seniors and it is a tribute to their hard work and dedication as well as to their teammates for the past four seasons, said Sewanee coach Matt Kern, who won his 120th career win with the Millsaps victory.
FIRST GOALS: Playing in his sixth match in two seasons, sophomore Jack Bethay scored his first college goals of his career against Millsaps. Bethay entered the match at 40:30 and scored his first goal at 42:40 on an assist from Brady Garvich to give Sewanee a 3-0 lead at halftime. He re-entered the game in the second half at 63:20 and scored at 75:45 off an assist from Andy Mantini. Bethay is a midfielder from Birmingham, Ala., and attended Mountain Brook School.
