Men's Soccer:
Sewanee Defeats Fisk, 11-0
(Sewanee, TN.) -- The University of the South mens soccer team tied a school record for goals scored in a match as the Tigers defeated Fisk University, 11-0, here Friday to kickoff Homecoming Weekend. Sewanee tied the school record established in 1973 and tied in 1979.
Junior David Allen scored twice and nine other teammates scored once each for Sewanee (13-2) which is ranked 31st in the nation.
The Tigers have a nine-match win streak, dating back to Sept. 21st. Goalkeepers Paul Roper (senior) and Dylan Lane (freshman) combined for the shutout, with each having one save on the day. Its Sewanees fifth straight shutout of the season and seventh overall. The Tigers have allowed 13 goals one less than the school record (14) set by the 1998 team.
Honored with three other teammates on Senior Day, Andrew North scored the winning goal of the match, scoring first at 2:15. He also picked up his 39th career assist on Kemper Blairs goal in the 13th minute.
Senior Andrew Daniele scored his fifth career goal in the 17th minute for a 3-0 lead, while senior Ryan Davis started but did not score.
Kemper Blair, Jack Bethay, Brady Garvich, Andy Mantini, Thomas Smythe, Jake Thomas and Keith Davis also scored for the Tigers.
Notes: Coach Matt Kern was not on the bench for this match as he sat out a one-match suspension from the NCAA. He received a red card between regulation and the overtime period at the Blackburn match on Oct. 16 .. Last Time: In their previous meeting, Sewanee edged Fisk, 1-0, in 1991 .. Most Goals: The 1973 squad established the school record for most goals in a match and largest shutout win by defeating Tennessee Wesleyan, 11-0, here at Sewanee on Sept. 14 to open the season .. The 1979 squad tied the record for goals in a match, with an 11-1 win against UT-Chattanooga here at Sewanee on Sept. 17 .. Garvich has 3: Brady Garvich has scored in the past three matches .. Multi-Goal Matches: David Allen has three, multi-goal matches this season.
