Men's Soccer:

Sewanee Stops Blackburn, 1-0 in OT

(Carlinville, Ill.) --   Junior Brady Garvich (Signal Mtn./McCallie School) scored his second winning goal in as many days as the Sewanee men’s soccer team defeated Blackburn College (Carlinville, Ill.), 1-0, in overtime here Tuesday.

Garvich’s goal came in the 12th minute of overtime on a double assist from Chris Wooster (Lexington, Ky./Catholic) and Jake Cail (Newfields, N.H./St.Paul’s) to give this year’s team a school record eighth straight win of the season. The old record was established in 1993 and tied in 1994 and 2000.

Ranked 31st in the nation, Sewanee is 12-2 overall and with three regular season matches remaining, has allowed 13 goals — one less than the school record (14) set by the 1998 team.

Sewanee goalkeeper Paul Roper (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) was credited with the shutout—his sixth of the season—as he had two saves.

The numbers for the 2nd team All-South and 1st team All-SCAC player are impressive—19 career shutouts, six this season, four in a row and three in the past four days, on the road. He has not allowed a goal in the last 373 minutes.

HOMECOMING & 4 SENIORS: Sewanee hosts Fisk on Friday at 3 p.m. CDT for Homecoming and the final regular season home match for seniors Andrew Daniele, Ryan Davis, Andrew North and Paul Roper.
