All-SCAC Honors for Sewanee
(Sewanee, TN.) -- For the second year in a row, Sewanee swept the two major awards in the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mens soccer balloting announced today by the conference office.
Coach Matt Kern was selected as SCAC Coach of the Year for the second straight season, and senior forward Ryan Davis (Duncanville, Texas/Duncanville HS) was voted Player of the Year. Davis was second team All-SCAC as a sophomore and a junior. This is the first time in SCAC history that one school has received both major post-season awards in consecutive years.
LAST YEAR: In 2000, Kern was SCAC Coach of the Year and All-American Scott Polanacich was SCAC Player of the Year.
Sewanee seniors Andrew North (Forward, Florence, S.C./Chattanooga Baylor) and goal keeper Paul Roper (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) earned first team All-SCAC honors, while second team All-SCAC honors went to junior defender Chris Wooster (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) and sophomore forward Kyle Johnston (Bowling Green, Ky./Bowling Green HS) and honorable mention All-SCAC was awarded to junior forward David Allen (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic).
TEAM HIGHLIGHTS: Sewanee was 15-3-0 on the season, won the schools first SCAC soccer championship and also earned the schools first NCAA tournament bid.
