Men's Soccer:
Davis, Leffler Earn Academic All-Region Honors
(Sewanee, TN.) -- Sewanee men's soccer players Ryan Davis (Sr. Duncanville, Texas/Duncanville HS) and Andy Leffler (Jr. Rocky Mount, Va./North Cross HS) have been named to the Verizon First Team Academic All-District IV College Division Mens Soccer Team as selected by COSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America).
Varsity starters and key reserve players must have a minimum 3.200 cumulative grade-point average on a 4.000 scale and must be at least a sophomore. Voting is done by CoSIDA members. First team All-District selections are placed on the Academic All-America ballot with a voting deadline of Jan. 28. The Academic All-America first and second teams will be announced on Feb. 5.
RYAN DAVIS (Sr. Forward/Defender Duncanville, Texas/Duncanville HS):
GPA: 3.85 Cumulative Major: Economics & Spanish Davis was SCAC Player of the Year and 1st Team All-Central Region this past fall. He had six goals and six assists and led Sewanee (15-3) to its first SCAC championship and first NCAA Div. III national tournament appearance. For his career, Davis started in 75 straight matches with 26 goals and 28 assists.
Besides being a 1st Team CoSIDA Verizon Academic All-District selection, Davis is a four-time Academic All-SCAC student-athlete, has earned a 4.0 GPA the past two semesters and was 1st team Academic All-South (SCAA) as a junior.
A member of the Order of Gownsmen (academic honor society) and a Deans List student, Davis received the Sewanee Memorial Scholarship for attainment in Economics last September. He also has designed, built and maintains the Sewanee mens soccer web site.
ANDY LEFFLER (Jr. Midfielder, Rocky Mount, Va.; North Cross HS):
GPA: 3.80 Cumulative Major: Natural Resources Leffler has started 55 matches in three years at the midfield position, with nine career goals, 11 assists and one match-winning goal.
This past season, he had five goals and three assists and helped Sewanee (15-3) to its first SCAC championship and first NCAA Div. III national tournament appearance.
Besides being a 1st Team CoSIDA Verizon Academic All-District selection, Leffler is a three-time Academic All-SCAC selection. He is a member of the Order of Gownsmen (academic honor society) and a Deans List student.
