Dance courses at Sewanee provide an inclusive learning environment for students of all levels and backgrounds, from experienced dancers seeking to hone their craft to those discovering a new passion for dance as participants or informed audience members. All classes take place in the professionally equipped dance studio in the Tennessee Williams Center. In addition to academic dance courses, master class opportunities are often available to Sewanee students and the community.
Performances and Opportunities
The dance program is dedicated to excellence in the creation and production of dance performances. Theatre/Sewanee produces an annual faculty-directed dance concert, DanceWise, featuring choreography and performances by students, faculty, and guest artists. These performances invite emerging student choreographers to participate in the creative process of dance-making, afford experienced dancers opportunities to develop their artistry, provide avenues for interdisciplinary collaboration between set/lighting/costume designers, and serve as vehicles for studying and engaging in dance criticism.
Additional performance, choreography and leadership opportunities are available for student involvement in Theatre/Sewanee productions and the following student-run organizations:
-Perpetual Motion (performance-based group)
-Swing that Thing (swing & social dance)
-Tiger Girls (dance team)
-Sewanee Step Team
