Professor Betsy A. Sandlin was recently named the next director of the Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) Summer Teaching and Learning Workshop, a position that she will begin in July 2014. Sandlin attended the workshop as a participant in 2005 and has served as a facilitator at the workshop for eight years.
This unique, intensive, one-week experience is for faculty at all ACS colleges interested in honing their teaching practices and sharing ideas with colleagues from different institutions and disciplines. Each summer, approximately 30 faculty members at all stages of their career participate in a process called "microteaching," teaching seven-minute segments to a small group of their peers who then provide feedback on their experiences as learners during the lesson. Evening plenary sessions are also held on various topics related to higher education pedagogy. The workshop has been running continuously for more than 20 years and is currently held at Trinity University in San Antonio. The 2015 location will be Furman.
