Sewanee-at-Yale Summer Internships

For Students at the University of the South in Collaboration with the Yale Child Study Center

This paid summer internship offers college undergraduates an eight-week research experience in biomedical and related research under the auspices of the Yale Child Study Center at the Yale School of Medicine.  Interns are placed in research laboratories in the Child Study Center; the Departments of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Diagnostic Radiology; the Haskins Laboratories; and a private company in New Haven, Cogstate. Students are exposed to research in a clinical setting and to the day-to-day workings of a behavioral neuroscience research laboratory.

The internship experience also includes:

(a) a weekly lab meeting for the interns during which each intern presents an update on their project for group discussion;
(b) a weekly lecture series focusing on topics in developmental psychopathology and also relevant to the interns’ projects with lectures provided by the research mentors working with the intern group;
(c) a weekly journal club in which papers relevant to those discussed in the lecture series will be reviewed;
(d) a second weekly lecture series offered by investigators in the Child Study Center about their research programs;
(e) sessions on medicine and humanities including readings of novels and short stories about the caring professions

Interns also participate in seminars and journal clubs within their specific research teams.  In the final week of their internship, all interns prepare a research poster describing their work during the summer. The poster session, held at the Child Study Center, affords the opportunity for interns to have the experience of presenting their work to investigators and other students from the Child Study Center and other mentoring departments, as well as from the School of Medicine.

Applications for Yale Child Study Center summer internships are accepted online. The application deadline is February 15th. Questions? Check here for additional info or contact the Sewanee Career Center,, x1121.)
