The ceremony for initiating New Members was held May 27th followed by a dinner with guest speaker Dr. Chuck Campbell, Chief of Cardiology at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.  Dr. Campbell is dedicating to preventive medicine and has cardiac clinics at local hospitals.  He is a strong supporter of our pre-health program and advocate for students.

Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) is an Honors Society and and Service Organization that is Nationally recognized.  The local chapter of the national pre-medical honor society Alpha Epsilon Delta is the Tennessee Epsilon Chapter. Selection is based on academic achievement in a wide range of science courses. Individuals are inducted during their junior or senior year who have completed at least eight science courses and have maintained at least a 3.2 GPA overall as well as a 3.2 GPA in their science courses.

Students initiated into AED represent a wide variety of pre-health disciplines. Students in AED go on to study nursing, veterinary medicine, physical therapy, osteopathic medicine, allopathic medicine, and dentistry. Students are encourage to submit articles to the AED publication the Scalpel and volunteer as mentors to incoming pre-health students.

The Mentor Match Program run by SHPS, Sewanee’s Health Professions Society, is a new program that aims to provide supportive and informative experiences for new pre-health students.  AED members are poised to offer great advice on how they succeeded in the pre-health curriculum and are excellent resources for students looking to network about internships and leadership opportunities on campus.

For more information about AED you can contact the AED President, Jacob Zalewski C'16, or the Chapter Faculty Advisor and Chair of the Health Professions Advisory Committee, Rich Summers, Associate Professor of Chemistry.
