Sir Peter Crane visits Sewanee

Sir Peter Crane, the former director of the Royal Botanical Gardens in Kew, London, and the former dean of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, spent several days in Sewanee last week to give our convocation address and to visit with SIPE faculty and students. Dr. Crane is seen here with geology professor Bran Potter, Environmental Stewardship director Amy Turner, his wife Eleanor, University Archaeologist Sarah Sherwood and environmental studies professor Russell Fielding. Dr. Crane is currently the first president of the Oak Spring Garden Foundation, an estate of Rachel Lambert Mellon in Virginia, that includes extensive gardens and a library of landscape history and plant science.
