Prof. Evan E. Joslin has been awarded $55,000 from the American Chemical Society for her independent research. This grant is awarded to new investigators who are conducting fundamental research related to petroleum or fossil fuels. Joslin's research is focused on the synthesis of amides, a fundamental component in many current drugs, from basic organic compounds found in fossil fuels. This grant will fully fund two chemistry students with a stipend, housing, and benefits for an eight-week period over two summers. Additionally, it will provide funding for students to go to a regional or national meeting to present their research. The grant will also provide funding for equipment and consumables.
