Born in mainland China, Yunxin Xing received an education which allows her to appreciate both the literary and pictorial legacy of Chinese tradition and culture. She is currently a senior at the University of the South with a double major in English and Art, delving further into Western culture by participating in the British Studies at Oxford program in U.K. The exposure to traditional and classical forms of arts serve as the great foundation for her artistic pursuit, which allows her to incorporate the values and ethos of the past with the contemporary practice into works of art.
Fascinated by the psychological battle within the landscape of mind and emotion, my works use splash of paints, swirling lines, and hand or finger prints to create monochromatic, gestural marks, which reveals the oscillation of energy and manifestation of passionate spirit. Swirling marks of color translate the jollity of spirit into space, while sharp and geometric shapes imply the sense of system and boundaries possible to break through. Juxtaposing the fragmented human torso and energized marks, my paintings transform the immobility of the human vessel into the free expression of the passionate spirit. The scale and the marks create a mythical environment, the realm of fantasy, where evocative energy and liveliness come out and celebrate the great revelry of free expression.
