Language Houses at Sewanee

To promote the learning of foreign languages and of different cultural contexts, Sewanee has four language houses (French, German, Russian, and Spanish) and for Italian, an interest house, also known as the Paschall House.  These are all residential facilities so students live in the houses through the academic year.  Each language house has a head resident who is a native speaker of the language of the house.  Students who live in the language houses (not the Italian house) are expected to speak the language of their house when “at home” in the language house.  Activities of houses vary through the year.  In general, they represent an array of enjoyable cultural and social events--both educational and recreational.
