International Students at Sewanee

Welcome New International Student Class of 2022!

The University of the South emphasizes a close community among its students. To help build strong relations among students, nearly all students live in dormitories or program houses on campus. Some of the current program houses include the foreign language houses (Russian, French, Spanish, German, and Italian), the Community Engagement House, and the Sustainability House. Dormitories organize social events, and program houses offer a wide variety of social and co-curricular activities around their program themes.

Sewanee is a small, rural town with a population of about 4,000 people. For international students, many of whom come from large cities, Sewanee may seem confining at first. The University and town are surrounded by natural forests with many opportunities for outdoor activities including hiking, bicycling, canoeing and caving. Students can explore these opportunities on their own, but the Sewanee Outing Program, run by the University, organizes weekly events. The town and campus have very little crime, and students are able to enjoy the security that comes from living in a small community.

Sewanee welcomes international students because they can benefit from the education experience at Sewanee and the many ways in which they enrich the life of our campus.
