Teaching Funds for New Faculty

Although you may be a veteran teacher, it takes time to get to know a new school and its students. To that end, for faculty in their first semester of teaching at Sewanee, the Center for Teaching will reimburse up to $100 in student-related expenses. Virtually any co-curricular expense with students would qualify. If the expenses is strictly curricular, we may need to discuss the particulars: many expenses would qualify, but Center policy does not usually allow us to fund the purchase of equipment, books, or such for normal class preparation. Fortunately, especially at beginning of the academic year, the library is eager to accommodate requests for new books, videos, dvds, etc. Betsy Grant in Acquisitions can help expedite such requests.

To simplify, if the expense is clearly student-related (field trip, getting together for coffee or a meal, etc.), just send in up to $100 in receipts and we'll reimburse you. If it's not a clear case, just ask us in advance. Either way, be sure to keep receipts --it's an IRS requirement.
