Welcome to the Bioethics Research Guide. This site is meant to serve two different types of visitors: those who know little about bioethics research or the sort of resources available for such research and who want to learn the basics, and those who are already familiar with research in bioethics but want an easily accessible list of important bioethics resources. Below you will find descriptions of the major sections of the site. If you are a visitor of the first sort, you may want to spend some time in the first two sections of the site: 'An Introduction to Bioethics' and 'Doing Research in Bioethics'; otherwise, you may find the first two sections useful, but the 'Resources' sections will take you directly to pages dealing with bioethics resources available online and in print.

If you have any questions or comments about the site, or suggestions for improvement, please contact Jim Peterman or Andrew Moser.

  • An Introduction to Bioethics
  • This page covers online and print resources designed to provide introductory readings in bioethics. The primary focus is on medical ethics, that branch of bioethics concerned with ethical issues arising in health care settings. If you are already familiar with the terrain of bioethics or medical ethics, you may skip this page, but you may still want to use it to access the web readings or to consult the print bibliography.

  • Doing Research in Bioethics
  • This page provides a road map for performing literature searches in bioethics and guidance on how to characterize a bioethical issue in order to maximize the effectiveness of such searches. If you are already familiar with the vocabulary of the topic you are researching and know about the basic genres of relevant literature, you may skip this page.

  • Public Internet Resources
  • Bioethics resources freely available online.

  • Internet and Print Resources Available at Sewanee
  • Bioethics resources available to faculty, students, and staff at the campus of the University of the South.
