As a graduate of the College in the class of 1973, I have a keen appreciation of what Sewanee has to offer students who are serious about their academic work and future careers. As a native of Atlanta, Georgia, I found the beautiful campus on a 10,000 acre mountain-top domain to be an ideal place to study and to learn about myself. I am pleased the College at an enrollment of 1250 students is large enough to have strong academic programs, while remaining small enough for the average class size to be thirteen students. Most importantly, our size and our student to faculty ratio of 10:1 make it possible for a student to know all of his or her professors.

With seventeen residential halls, we have been able to preserve the atmosphere of close community we believe contributes greatly to the learning process both inside and outside the classroom. As a student and as an African American, I found that I gained a greater appreciation of my culture while a student in the College, as well as a meaningful appreciation of the cultures of others. I believe that my education has helped me to lead a prosperous and fulfilling life.

Although we place great importance on interpersonal relations in the College, we are on the forefront of academic computer technology. We have expanded our computer capabilities in recent years. Ample computers are available on campus for all students. Increasingly, professors and students are making greater use of computer technology and the internet in the classroom. From dorm rooms, students are able to connect to the internet, search the library catalog, or send email or voice mail messages.

Students have the opportunity to structure meaningful internship opportunities through our Tonya and ACE internship programs, in addition to our strong academic programs. We have very strong study abroad programs as well. During a typical academic year, over twenty percent of our students study abroad. We believe opportunities such as paid internships and studying abroad add value to students' college experience. With over 130 student organizations and a very strong Student Activities.

Program, students have ample opportunities to have fun and to build leadership and organizational skills. We also have nine women's and nine men's teams competing in eighteen sports as members of Division III of the NCAA. The Fowler Center, our new state-of-the-art athletic complex with an indoor track and an official Olympic size pool, is an ideal facility for serious athletes and for those with an interest in maintaining a healthy life style.
